Networking and Communication

Networking is the band that connects the computers electronically to share useful information. Various resources such as files, applications, printers and software are some information shared via networking. The advantage of networking can be seen clearly in terms of security, efficiency, manageability and cost effectiveness as it allows collaboration between users in a wide range. Usually network consists of hardware components such as computer, hubs, switches, routers and other devices which forms the complete infrastructure of the network. Computer networks also covers the geographical areas of different sizes with differnt services like WAN – Wide Area Network MAN – Metropolitan Area Network LAN – Local Area Network PAN – Personal Area Network.

Communication refers to the sharing of information, giving and receiving of messages, and the transfer of information from one or more people to one or more other people. Communication networks are used to transport information from one place to another by exchanging the data between end-systems to support a variety of services and distributed applications. Computer networking depends on the fields like computer engineering, computer sciences, information technology and telecommunication. Computers should always communicate through a switched network because when a network is made up of switching nodes (intermediate systems),they are connected by point-to-point links, typically in a mesh topology.
